After it's star-studded world premiere at the Sydney Opera House, Trekkies around the globe can get excited as J.J. Abrams' Star Trek beams into cinemas on May 7, but before you see the film get up to speed with all you need to know about the film with our Star Trek special.

Star Trek reunites fans with the original crew of the Starship Enterprise and chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members during their time at Starfleet Academy. It brings to the big screen the story of how this legendary crew came together to hold the fate of the ship and the universe in their hands.

Breathing new life into the original Star Trek characters is a hot young cast including Chris Pine who takes on the role of Captain Kirk while Zachary Quinto plays the hot-tempered Spock. Pine and Quinto are joined by Eric Bana, Leonard Nimoy, Winona Ryder, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Bruce Greenwood, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Morrison, Ben Cross, Tyler Perry and Jimmy Bennett.
