Same old moves
There are three things that make up a dance movie: hot bods, great moves and funky music. "Make it Happen" has all three, but unfortunately not much else.
If you've seen "Step Up", "Step Up 2 The Streets", "Save the Last Dance", "Honey" - or any dance movie that has ever been made, for that matter - you've pretty much seen "Make It Happen". It's the story and message we're all familiar with when it comes to dance movies - to live the dancing dream and believe in yourself.
In this case it's the story of Lauryn (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a young girl from Indiana who put her dancing dreams on hold after her parent's death to work in the family garage with her brother, Joel. She leaves her hometown to embark on a journey to Chicago with the dream of being accepted into the elite Chicago School of Music and Dance.
When Lauryn fails to get in, her dreams are shattered. In a moment of self-pity she is befriended by Dana (Tessa Thompson), who introduces her to the team at Ruby's, a burlesque bar - where Lauryn discovers a new style of dance that will prove to be the source of both conflict and self-discovery. It's also the place where she finds her "inner sexy" and of course the place where she catches the eye of the club deejay, who encourages Lauryn to pursue her dreams while he tries to achieve his own.
Made by the same people behind "Save the Last Dance" and "Step Up", it shouldn't come as a surprise that this movie drills home the message to never give up on your dreams despite the hurdles and that no matter where you come from, you can do it (can anyone else smell cheese?!).
If you like good moves, great music, predictability and don't mind a formula film, then you might enjoy "Make It Happen". But if you're looking for a fresh dance movie with some substance, then best to give this film a miss.

Go see if you're a dance fan...

Make it Happen was a good movie but not as good as Step Up 1 & 2 aswell as Save the last Dance. The music during the movie was awesome coz you could just sit there & bop to it! Go see if you're a dance fan...

there are no words..

This was a waste of space, time and money. it was terrible. the writting was completly ridiculous and in some parts did not make sense.
The dancing, cause that is what i went to see, was pitiful... there were only 2 routines that had some form of interesting chorie.
Furthermore the main actor could NOT dance to save her life. she was drab and sexless which defies the point of the movie.
The movie was a joke and i wish i could take back that 2hrs of my life and my $13
