A rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great French chef despite his family's wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the sewers of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unlikely - and certainly unwanted - visitor in the kitchen of a fine French restaurant, Remy's passion for cooking soon sets into motion a hilarious and exciting rat race that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down.

    Pixar serves up a treat

Living on a farm in the French countryside, Remy dreams of one thing: to be a chef like his hero, the celebrated Gusteau. Unfortunately there's a bit of a hitch - Remy happens to be a rat. Unable to bring himself to eat the rotting garbage that satisfies the rest of his family, he sneaks into the human's house to perfect his culinary creations. When one of his visits alerts the farm's owner to the rodent infestation, the entire clan have to flee and Remy finds himself alone under Paris. As luck would have it, though, Remy happens to end up directly under Gusteau's restaurant and decides to use this opportunity to try and make his dream a reality.

Of course, a rat is hardly the most welcome guest in a professional kitchen, so Remy's aspirations are put on ice until he befriends the hapless kitchen-hand Linguini. Now all Remy has to do is avoid the scheming head-chef Skinner and find a way to impress the reputation-destroying food critic, Anton Ego.

The animation is top-notch, as audiences have come to expect from Pixar, and this quality really enhances the comedy that comes from the character's individual reactions and physical quirks. In fact, many of the laughs come from the subtle shifts in a character's expression, which is important because so much of "Ratatouille" lies in the interaction of the people (and rodents) bustling about in the back of Gusteau's.

It's clear that the Pixar crew love cooking - or at least they're as swept up in the recent cooking-show craze as everyone else - because the food-preparation sequences really are something else. It also seems that the animators nailed their technique for wet fur, because they take every opportunity to have Remy at different levels of dampness whenever possible.

Like the dishes served up by its hairy hero, this movie is an absolute treat. While the five-star rating of Gusteau's fictional restaurant may have been in doubt, "Ratatouille's" never is.

We need more rat movies like this
    5 star rating
This is a fantastic movie. There needs to be more movies like this that show rats as the cute, cuddly and smart little critters that we people who own them already knew. The only thing I didn't like about this movie is that there weren't any girl rats. Remy shouldn't just have one sibling either. Rats have big families.

    A Definite Must See!
    4.5 star rating
This animated movie is a sheer delight! Adults shouldn't be deterred because it's animated. The colours on-screen are simply stunning. The story-line is well constructed and the characterisations are brilliant. Do yourself a favour and see this movie. You won't be disappointed.

As a 20-year-old I was little sceptical at first but I was pleasantly surprised at how cute and funny the movie was. My sister and boyfriend really enjoyed it as well. It is very creative and the animation is very realistic. I would recommend seeing this film.

    For kids only
    3 star rating
Ratatouille was a movie made for children no older than 11. if you have a teenager that wants to see this movie i would highly recomend not to. the movie seems to drag on forever and the main complication in the movie is making the soup! If your child is having a birthday party, see this movie, but if you have an older child or your going with some friends of your own, see something else.

    Better than 'Toy Story'
    5 star rating
This movie is just what you'd expect from the great movie makers that brought us "Finding Nemo" and "Toy Story". It's absolutly stunning. I think it can only be beaten by "Finding Nemo".
