What you say
no gadgets- no fun!!

i went to see this for my little bothers birthday and the whole movie long i was waiting for something to happen . There where no gadgets and thats what i really like about the Bond movies. Daniel Craig , I think, tries tooooo hard to be sexy and, im sorry but he's not! His blue eyes do nothing it just lookes un natural! Over all the movie wasn't that bad, it just was another good action movie, not a Bond movie! That's why it wasn't as good as Pierce Brosnan's Bond movies, they where great!!

Mind-Bogglingly Bad

After Casino Royale, I was a born-again Bond fan. Not no more I ain't.
This movie is like 50 high-speed chases in a row. No storyline, nothing clever .... nothing.
I just cannot believe how bad it is.

Skip the pun - fire the gun.

This film should have been as good as Casino Royale but its just not. Terrible direction and appauling camera work ruin most of the fight sequences which (from the rare times i could work out what was going on) looked to be absolutely spectacular.
This aside it was still an excellent film. Craig carries the film with ease and Judi Dench is again wonderful as M. Bond is angry, agressive and looks like hes actually capable of killing someone (Brosnan prefered to suffocate enemies in his chest hair). There is more action in this film than any of the other Bonds and he is far more brutal than we've ever seen him before.
The important thing to remember though is that Casino Royale and Quantum are origin stories. Bond is yet to acquire the suaveness that we all associate with him. Expect the gadgets and sophistication to return in the next installment. So dont be disappointed when you find they are not present here.
The one liners are absent but there is still plenty of humour, much of it from Bond himself. And unlike many of the terrible puns from the previous films, these jokes are actually funny.
All in all this is a true edge of your seat action experience. Explosions, hot girls, humour and a real action hero. Yet somehow it is still unmistakeably Bond. Terrible camera work aside this is an extraordinary adrenalin pumping 90 minutes.

Expectedly dissapointing

"Casino royale" had it all, good, frequent action a good storyline and a great villain. But im afraid "Quantum of solace lacked most of these things, too many, in fact. Craig gives off another great performance as bond but the movie itself just doesn't work for me.

I LOVED IT!

Omg, I loved this movie!
Though bond lacked his cunning sense of humor, he had the hot sexy body! Daniel Craig was hot and most dashing!
I loved the movie, I was like at the edge of my seat, scared that he would get hurt! He did so well, and jumping of roof's onto buses is not that easy!
Leave him alone! He did well! He's hot so that should make up for it
See it! Now!

More Bond that Bond

Very happy with this and even more with the previous Casino Royale. As an avid Bond book fan its great to see a move for the movies to be more true to the Ian Fleming writing. To those who are disappointed and don't feel that this movie was "true" Bond I recommend reading the actual books. If you still don't like it them just stick to cheesy Roger Moore reruns (personally I would be quite happy to see all the Roger Moore Bond movies put in the bin!)
Can't wait for the next one - I was on the seat of my pants the whole time!

This Bond's no fop...very, very, good.

Let's get the let down out of the way. The opening song is light, slightly foppish, frothy and forgettable, 'bang bang' indeed. If only it had been Amy Winehouse. She would have delivered the goods in the Bond song tradition. However, Daniel Craig does deliver. Forget about those old distractions like the whiz toys, the clown antics introduced by Roger Moore, or the old geezer chat-ups that always came across as smarmy and repellant. Roger to blame again, or was it George?
Gone too are those repetitive little signatures quips, served up instead of intelligent scripting. Yes, we miss them a little but now we get something far smarter. Listen hard because it is the barman who describes in exacting detail Bond's tipple, rather than Bond himself. The whole movie is pared down and re-worked only this time it is far close to the original Fleming Bond than even Casino Royale. Think 'Dr No'. Here we get Bond as intended, hard, cruel, and with a heart that beats.
Sure, there is no introductory narrative, setting up the story, but there is as good a plot as any Bond movie previous to this. Only we are dropped smack into the middle of it, and its a ride. I had to pay attention, this is not a movie to go where you can take time out to go check your mobile messages. The dialogue is sparse and dead on, and counter to what oher's have said here, its smart! You just need to pay attention.
I really liked the style of this movie, Craig is central and centre screen, its crafted work visually extremely creative, and in that single area itself makes every Bond movie previous look staid by comparison. The hand held cam is only in the action sequences and the effects are actually very good. Again though, not for the crowd who yearn to see another Bond movie of Roger's.
If you remember Roger's Bond with fondness don't go to this movie. You'll end up writing another misleading bad review. Instead go rent Moore or perhaps Brosnan. This one is not for you. Its for those of us who prefer the Bond we read in Fleming's books. A visual cue that we are being taking back to the Fleming charactor is at the very beginning. The title graphic sequence is very reminiscent of the cover artwork seen on older paperback copies of Fleming's Bond books. Bang bang! Catch it while you can on the big screen. This is an audacious rendering of Bond. and the movie will soon attain cult status.

Not worth it

I am a total Bond fan....but not this one.
Where is the dashing debonaire Bond with a bit of class and a wicked sense of humour? This angst driven muscle bound hunk is the same as every other action hero. Only worse as there is no story and the acting is poor. Shame.

Good movie, but not a Bond movie
Look, the plot was a tease. We got a sniff of this big invisible group that had infiltrated the intelligence community but it didn't even go as deep as Prison Break's "Company"!
The bad guy was not a Bond class evil man, he looked like a petty smuggler... and what exactly did he do to destabilise the government in 1 week! Nothing compared to the Carver media mogul in Tomorrow never dies.
The girl... not sexy enough.
And Bond... there was no Bond. It was Daniel Craig (pretty good - but he's just no Bond). I don't know if it's the writers, the directors or the screenplay... it's just not Bond anymore.
The best 007 movies are The Man With The Golden Gun and The Spy Who Loved Me. That's 100% Bond... this was 10% Bond. And still no Q!

Not a True Bond Film!

This was an unfortunate piece of cinema! We felt that we were not watching a Bond film. The previous one was terrific and Daniel Craig convincing as Bond, but this full-on violent piece of action packed nonsense has lost the plot. We were looking forward to this second movie as the follow-on, but it did not deliver!

Lots of action little substance

Super spy to mediocre troubleshooter.
If all that matters is a pretty face and numerous explosions then you have what you need in this the latest in the Bond franchise.
But if your interested in a plot, then your going to have to wait for the next in the series and presumably watch all three together in one hit.
By itself it fails.
As a single chapter in an ongoing storyline it may work depending on what the story has next...but having to wait doesn't help my view on this episode.

New Bond movie
A very poor movie with a barely existent plot (even for a Bond Movie) which just about manages to string together a series of action clips which beggar belief - an old DC3 without any advanced gadgetry outmanoeuvres a fighter plane then Bond and accomplis manage to open a parachute 100 feet above the ground and are miraculously uninjured - ha ha Struggled to fathom if there was any story at all. Definitely one of the worst and Damiel Craig did not shine. Judy Dench - tragic! Can now understand Roger Moore's polite but guarded commentary! Give it a miss not worth the money

Good but not Bond

As an action movie it was good - as a Bond film it failled. Bond very rarely hurried, was always immaculately dressed and had excellent script writers. OK in tihs day and age Bond's attitude towards females has to be changed, but the essence of Bond is just not there. Don't get me wrong as an action film it was excellent but just not Bond. Transporter 3 is more in the real Bond style; fast cars, well groomed, and far better scripted.

This James Bond is lacking warmth and romance. Violence has overshadowed the whole James Bond genure. I kept wishing that Sean Connery or Roger Moore would suddenly appear and take over the 007 role. With then there was excitement to be sure, but also playful romancing and a Bond who was dashing with swagger reiminiscent of Erol Flynn , the swashbuckler.
Don't think I will take in another Bond movie with this star. Totally lacking in appeal. A disappointment...

Pretty Average

The good bits? The action scenes and some exotic locations like we expect from Bond Films. The not so good? The fast shaky camera work which makes it hard to follow what is going on in the fight scenes. Its like instead of editing it properly so that the scenes flow they just made it all choppy and "hand held" to give this impression of movement but it just ended up being incoherent at times. I appreciate Daniel Craigs' Bond is a shift towards a harder more psychopathic killer than the playboy image of Roger Moore. This was the "original" way Bond was portrayed in the novels by Ian Fleming. There was also an attempt to give Bond a bit of psychological depth with a bit of soul searching and hurt in places. However I agree when other reviewers have said the realism has gone a bit too far and this felt like many other action movies. I mean what happened to the humour with "Jaws" eating his way out of the shark tank and that bad guy who used to stroke the cat? Its all gone a bit "gritty" and "real" for me. Still, I was entertained but I thought "Roman de Gare" was a better thriller, go and see that instead.

Continuation of a bond film, not a great idea for the future. Best leave an unbroken wheel unbroken. The action sequences are awesome to say the least but shame about the story. Doesn't really have the quality of Casino Royale but is still an okay picture. The most disappointing thing was the title sequence though with too much sand and not enough story like previous outings

Action movie...Yes, Bond Movie...Not really

This is a very good action movie with the exception of the use of "wobble cam" that sadly has become popular amongst directors lately and used to shoot much of the action. It is supposed to give the audience the immediacy of being there but for me only serves to make me dizzy and a bit motion sick.
One can argue that the 2006 Casino Royale was the only REAL James Bond movie ever made because it was the only movie based on a novel of the same title written by the creator of James Bond; Ian Flemming. All the other Bond movies were written by Hollywood using none of the story line only character names and title. This however was a requirement of Ian Flemming to use his work.
Quantum of Solace was never a Flemming Novel but continues on from where Casino Royale left off and continues in much the same flavour as that movie.
But...if you were hoping for the outragious and fun Bond Movies of Albert Brocoli's Eon Productions then this is not one of them.
As an action movie it is very good but really no different than the hundreds of other action movies made. It does not have any special signature.
Personally I miss the magic that the Albert Brocoli touch always seemed able to create in his classic Bond movies. Sadly however he is no longer with us so it is up to his successors at Eon Productions to carry on in his spirit.

The signature song should have told me that this was not going to be a Bond Movie. Terrible credits, terrible camera work, awful direction, lazy writing, carbon copy a 100 Hollywood pulp mill action films and this is what is served up as James Bond. I've seen them all and without doubt this is the worst of all, so bad I will not buy the dvd to add to my Bond collection and I've even got 'never say never again' Perhaps Broccoli and co should say, never again to the bunch of juvenile operatives who put this together. Perhaps the biggest clue to this kids film was the first ever swear word in a Bond movie for which there was no need. Lazy lazy lazy writing created a script that should never have seen the light of day let alone in a Bond franchise

It started with a bang...but went downhill from there.

And as always, Quantum of Solace started with a highly action packed car chase. Typical? Cliche? Just plain predictable. And as always, it didn't live up to its predecessor's name. Casino Royale had the suspense, the action and the pure intelligence all woven into a carefully created plot. Quantum of Solace had the well, action, the excellent cinematography woven into an absolutely rubbish imitation of a plot. What makes a James Bond movie? The absolute intelligence of the spy and his plans. The well shot action scenes which look all to good to actually be true. The suave, charming, character which charms girls with a wink of his eye. If this is what we were expecting, Quantum of Solace didn't deliver. Sorry, but overall, not worth the hype.

..a cracking good time..

Let's be honest, this movie was never going to live up to Casino Royale (which was surely the best Bond movie since Connery). The main reason for this is that QoS is a sequel - the only time in Bond history - and as such it cannot have the impact of the `original'. In Casino Royale we all `gasped' at the breathless, hardcore rebirth of Bond and were swept away by this 21st century super-hero. In QoS, our heartbeats have returned to normal as we know what Bond can, and will do. However, if you take the time and objectivity to view this movie on its own merits, you will realise Bond (and Daniel Craig) has lost none of his newly-found `fire', evident in CR. So sit back and enjoy a cracking good time...

Not quite what I expected
Whilst I agree that Daniel Craig is the best "Bond", the follow up to Casino Royal was not that good. Plenty of action, maybe to much, I was a little over it before the movie was even half way through. Bond is about action but not at the expense of what was a thin plot and a pretty average bad guy.
Maybe the next one will be better!

A Joke, Ameture
There is a diference between when you are a 007 fan and when you just like watching movies. for a Real 007 fan, this movie lucked potentially every known signature of the 007s that we are (007 fans) used to. The elements of Seduction, women, and electrifying gudgets are all missing, infact there is only one scene of a women where, in the most amaturely manner he littlery asks for her company rather than handle bussness the ways of the real 007s. And absolutely no gudget what so ever.
for action movie fans -like me, it was the most predictable of all actions and that destroys any movie.
In my observance, they tried to use the muscularity of Craig to try and give batter actions than previous bonds could give us and kind of overlooked what makes a 007 movie, a Bod movie entirely.
I say, give it a shot if you are an action movie fan, but if you are a 007 fan, don't waste your money on it. Get the DVD when it comes out

I must say i am addicted to James Bond films, however i was very disappointed with the latest movie The Quantum of Solace. The story line was all over the place, I didn't mind the fact that Bond started to drift away from MI6 during the movie as it is not the first time it has happened in the Bond films. But the thing that really upset me as a Bond fan was the whole storyline in general, I left the movie puzzled at what i had just watched. I can easily say this isn't going to be a big hit in the Bond series in my opinion.

Quantum of Solace - disappointing

I went to this movie with an open mind having seen Casino Royale and thought Daniel Craig was pretty good as the NEW James Bond. I was disappointed! Not that it did not live up to some of the reviews I have heard, even though I seldom pay any notice to professional critics and reviews, but there seem to be a lack of continuity in the movie. The series of action sequences were like watching a slide show in fast motion. I was so disappointed with the car chase sequence as it lacked credibility and the boat chase was just as bad. I cannot justify the $380 million spent on making this movie. I really thought the movie was boring, and Daniel Craig and Judy Dench both appeared to me like B grade actors. The $16.50 that I spent on watching this movie was a waste of good money! I recommend you give this movie a miss!

Then came along Craige with the rawness & fast paceness of Bourne triology that were excellent,But unfortunetly Bond now is lacking the charisma that came with the other Bonds, now we just have action & endless killing,I think Judy Dench made the movie flow along,

James Bond - keeping your utility bills down (possible spoilers)

In this movie James Bond essentially saves the day by preventing the citizens of some small nondescript South American country from being overcharged on their utility bills (No kidding). If that doesn't sound like a riveting plot, that's because it not.
There is also some side plot about a coup which doesn't amount to much and never really connects to the rest of the story.
Sure the car chases etc are all there and thay are pretty decent but it just doesn't come together, no tension, just boring in the end.
Despite that I enjoyed the first half of the movie, I thought it started out well. It had real potential. It was only the last half of the movie where I realised it wasn't going anywhere, that I was disappointed.
The actors were OK (I've nothing against Craig's portrayal of Bond), the action was OK (I can live with it being filmed by the directors kid on work experience), I loved some of the scenic views, but the movie just didn't come together in the end. I felt it was all dressed up with nowhere to go.
It didn't help that the baddies were very half hearted, nothing particularly diabolical about them - "Oh I failed to kill Bond's main love interest, that's annoying, hey will you kill her for me when you get the chance". For that matter the main love interest is only half hearted "Oh its the end of the movie - guess I should give you a kiss or something".
And it's not a James Bond movie its a Bourne movie (the only similarity to other James Bond movies is that the main actor has the same name - but that may just be coincidental for all I know).

A Classic Bond!
A thouroughly enjoyable movie in the best tradition of the 'Bond series', Daniel Graig is very convincing in his role and Judi Dench superb as always and with greater participation, rather than the odd appearance of previous Bond Movies.
As usual lots of action, great locations and cinematography, amazing car chase scenes and a good story to it, make this a "must see" for all Bond followers.

If Casino Royale was a 10, this would be an 8, but it was still an excellent movie, the action sequences were faultless, and Craig is without doubt, the best Bond yet. The Quantum of Solace is one of the worst Bond movies I have seen. Despite Daniel Craig's excellent acting the whole concept of Bond Series is lost. Everything what has made Bond movies special is gone. It's no different from hundreds of other thrillers produced by Hollywood. The Bond aristocratic style is replaced with very mediocre shooting seqences.
The witty oneliners, gorgeous women, style, gadgets, Q and Money Penny whcih made Bond films very entertaining have beedn replaced with nothing. Somebody totally lost the plot.

I do worry about you Bond!

Loved Casino Royale and was expecting the same classy product in QoS, but was sorely disappointed. Daniel Craig is the only saving grace here as he goes all out to do his best. But mate, what we saw on screen was certainly not worth a torn shoulder, sliced finger, or stitched up cheek. Foster's direction was inane. He had no clue. There 's no story worth the name. The action sequences, supposed to be the major attraction, made no sense and there was simply no stand out moment as in CR. It just gives you a headache with all that shaky camera work.
The editor was the real villain when he just spliced things like he was jerking around in his sleep. Camera work was shaky, shoddy, and held no magic. At the end of it you're left with an impression of endless desert and bloodied folks. We know the guy is hurting, we don't need to see him put in desolate landscapes to reinforce that. Craig's capable of real sensitive acting and would've come across as hurt even if placed in a Parisian boudouir. And there was no need to cover him in dirt and gore throughout. If it was an attempt to hide his blonde looks, please... nobody cares about his blonde hair except for a handful of ****. Desert scenes could've been interspersed with some classy locales and it wouldn't have hurt to see him clean and nice once in a while.
Camille's role is like another bond story and it felt like there was another movie embedded in there. She had a bigger, meaner, sado-masochisitic villain to beat up while Bond has a wimpy, smiling moron to deal with who looks as if a six yr old could've brought down with a well-aimed frisbee. For what's intended to be a sequel continuing within an hour of CR, the characters seem to have slipped into an American accent. Bond addresses M as ma'am in place of his usual marm. I feel for Craig. After all he's put in and been through for this movie, he's been let down terribly by Marc Foster's direction, the editing, the stunts, and let's not forget, the terrible credit song. The guy deserved better. Hope Broccoli and Co will think carefully about their choice of director for the next outing.
We want Craig like he was introduced in CR. We've had enough of his manic depression and unsmiling countenance. I don't want to ruin it for the suckers(like me) who haven't seen it yet. Craig's worth it;nothing else is.

As a fan of all the previous Bond films before Daniel Craig took over the helm, I was not a big fan of all the changes they made to the franchise with Casino Royale. However, Quantum of Solace has converted me. QoS has a face paced story line that keeps the action coming fast. The story line is not as deep as Casino Royale but who really cares, this is a Bond film. In 106 min they have packed in a car chase, foot chase, boat chase, plane chase and plenty of gun fire and hand to hand combat. In summary no Q, no Money Penny, no gadgets but 2 hot Bond girls, 4 chase scenes, a smashed up Asto Martin, Dench as M always good and a bad ass Bond. Dare I say the best Bond film since Goldeneye.

Not a Bond Movie

Sorry people but i believe that this movie is just an action movie. Great action scenes, car chases etc. but it lacked 'Bond' Features. Not enough to level with the other classics.
Daniel Craig does well for action films but (in my opinion) not well as James Bond (sorry people). The Villain: Dominic Greene (Don't know actors name) doesn't seem like a 'Bond' Villain and he didn't have that energy to be evil like the other bad guys in the previous films. Bond Girl: (Don't remember name) I think she did well, added her own style which many bond girls in the previous classics had done. M: (Judy Dench), She been the same, still good as M, nothing bad to say about her.
It's understandable how people would want to make/see/create/change Bond more human and full of emotion, but it can be seen in many action films (e.g. revenge-like films) outside of the Bond Franchise which makes these films like this less original and less 'Bond'. I prefer seeing the previous Bond films that has James as more of a guy with control, nothing gets to him, has class, style, every guy wants to be him vibe with little to no signs of emotion rather than Daniel Craig's anger, sadness, revenge and 'out of his way' reaction/feelings that he gives in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.
If you want an action movie watch it. Want a bond movie (and is a big fan of the franchise) stick to the old ones. Overall Rating: Action Movie: 4/5 Bond Movie: 1.5/5

up to the 'bond' standard
well produced and very well acted. it is like all James Bonds movies should be. Full of action, romance and a curvy plot. highly recomended that you go and see it

Average

mannnn wasted 10 bucks, it has lost the korney lines and getting the girl of the true bond movies. not even a decent storyline. only thing left to save it are the action scenes? nope the camera work is over worked and is just too fast and annoying

Just how the critics said it

It was talked up too much to be noticed in the movie at all. Just a bunch of fast moving action scenes put together to create a bond-like atmosphere but the plot was all over the place and the bad guy wasn't very evil at all. Not a stereotypical bad guy at all. I definetly wouldn't see it again and I hope for their next one, they pay a bit more attention.

the bond as you know him

This is your regular 'Bond' movie from one action scene to another, and with every one bond some how walks out of everything. The women are good., Daneil Craig keeps up the intensity. There is no sign of the signature bond music any where in the narration., also is the 'my name is bond' legendry line left out. For what the franchise stands for., this latest venture can be classified as just a bit above the rest. Bottom line., if you enjoy your bond movies, this one gives you no reason to sit out.

disappointed

Was looking forward to seeing this movie, but unfortunately it didn't live up to all the hype surrounding it and it was quite a let down after Casino Royale. It took a long hour and a half for the story to be set, with everything happening in the last thirty minutes of the movie. The best part...Daniel Craig was still hot as ever.

Barely Bond
Have just been to see latest Bond and I must admit I was waiting for the sparkle that just didn't seem to appear. I absolutely loved Casino Royale with its wit, locations and fashion. But there was really not much of it in Quantum.
The Austin is trashed ,again, in , the Bond girls fashion was not up to scratch and Bond was not his charming self. He seemed to be too dark in this one. Also the bad guys really lacked personality.
However I will give merit to the tribute to 'Goldfinger' . Really well done.

Hmm... meh...

I was really excited when my partner told me we had passes to the WA premiere to Quantam of Solace. Even more excited to find they had an array of Aston Martin's on display outside and in the cinemas for some eye candy.
Then the movie started.. I waited to be awed.. but to no avail! Other than the usual suspense - chases and a tragic destruction of a beautiful DBS..... I am somewhat dissapointed! Maybe my expectations were too high, in hindsight, it wasn't TOO bad a movie.. Just not what I had anticipated!
