Sobering yet heartwarming
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", or 'that film where Brad Pitt is old' is a sobering yet heartwarming look at the two certainties we'll all face – life and death.
Based on the short story by F Scott Fitzgerald, Benjamin Button's life story is the thought-provoking account of what might happen if a baby was born an infant in age but physically looked 80 years old, and actually got younger with the passing of time.
Set against a backdrop of world wars, depressions, racial segregation, moon landings and ultimately ends in the 21st century in the midst of Hurricane Katrina, Benjamin (Brad Pitt) is abandoned by his father as a newborn and he's raised in an old people's home where, as he grows up he looks just like them, but emotionally has the brain and social sensibilities of a child.
He befriends a young girl called Daisy (Cate Blanchett) and their friendship becomes the cornerstone of the movie, enduring their coming of age, his curious medical disorder and ultimately the one thing that has to keep them apart.
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is told in a flash back style (much like "The Notebook") with Daisy recounting the halcyon days of her life to her daughter while terminally ill in hospital.
Pitt gives an astonishingly good performance as a senior citizen (Angelina Jolie has nothing to worry about as old age edges ever closer to her beloved), while Cate Blanchett's Daisy is a formidable leading lady.
Prepare to weep buckets – I heard sniffles from around the cinema throughout the movie. And at almost three hours long, get ready to be emotionally drained when you come out. But in a good way.

Long, Drawn-Out and Over-Rated

I hate to rain on any parade, but this long-winded, slow moving totally fictional and non-belieavable film attempts to capture the audience into a world which simply just does not exist - and never will. The film has certain moments which attract your attention, but many minutes where you could easily catch a nap and not miss a thing.
Without Brad Pitt's starring role, this film simply would not be worth watching. Unfortunately the ending is clearly the most beautiful and best part of the movie - the only pity is that it takes two and a half hours to get there.
If you don't enter the movie with a totally open mind you will not discover any joy. If you love a tear jerker and can easily get involved in sad stories, then maybe this is for you. I'd say to the ladies that you'd be better off going with your friends than dragging your partners along.
An hour shorter and I might have got interested.

Excellent

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I felt the 3hr length justified as I felt the film was able to unfold as if one was reading a book. The film's length allowed it to include all the details and character unfolding necessary to feel a connection with the characters and storyline, which sometimes may be missed in shorter tales. I enjoyed the originality of the concept. On a technical level, the special aging effects developed were very cleverly done. Cate & Brad were believable as soulmates in this engaging film. Also, Brad's character was heartwarming in his ability to forgive and accept people for all their whims, faults & ways. It aptly portrays the enduring quality of love and how love has the power to transcend earthly illusions to the truth and heart of the matter.

Great concept

A very sad and moving love story. Brad Pitt was okay for once although still a bit wooden. Cate Blanchett was very good as usual. The Southern accents and the voice overs getting tiresome at times. The best things where the concept of the movie and thr great makeup for aging the actors, Cate and Brad will now have some idea of what is in store for them, but wait a minute no-one in Hollywood ages so maybe not!!!
